2010 Midwest Trumpet Festival

The 2nd annual Midwest Trumpet Festival, again hosted by Todd Hastings at Pittsburg State University, took place on October 10-11, 2010.  Northwest students Brittany Terwey and Rachel Sneed participated in the festival, which featured clinicians Dr. Joel Treybig (Belmont University), Mr. Al Hood (University of Denver), Dr. Todd Hastings (Pittsburg State University), Mr. Tito Carillo (University of Illinois), Dr. Iskander Akhmadullin (University of Missouri), Mr. Billy Hunter (Metropolitan Opera House Orchestra), Mr. John Sneider (Jazz Recording Artist and Composer/Arranger), Mr. Steve Leisring (University of Kansas), and Dr. William Richardson (Northwest Missouri State University).



Billy Hunter, co-principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera House Orchestra, was featured as a guest recitalist.  In addition, he presented a master class with trumpeters from the University of Missouri, the University of Kansas, and Northwest Missouri State University.  Northwest student participation in this year's festival was made possible through generous undergraduate research support from Dr. Charles McAdams, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at our fine institution.

September, 2010 Trumpet Activities at Northwest

We have had a busy September in the trumpet studio!  Latvian trumpeter Jānis Porietis performed a guest recital on September 26th and William Richardson performed his faculty trumpet recital on September 7.  Here are two videos from the latter:

Ah, summer...

It's mid-July and we're in the "dog days of summer."  For those of us not able to attend the I.T.G. Conference in Australia last week (I understand it was fantastic, btw), just pull your trumpet out of the case, dust-off the mouthpiece, and play something beautiful!

Many of the "Trumpet Recordings" posted are wonderful pieces for high-school and university trumpet players.  They are available, free of charge, courtesy of a 2007 Dean's Research Assistance Award granted by Dr. Charles McAdams, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University.
